Any time you involve an attorney in a settlement, the time to settle increases dramatically, and the amount you get decreases by a third generally.
As to how long you have to wait, only the attorney you hired can answer that question. Since you are paying him, ask him, not us.
I was in a car accident on January 22, 2008. I kept my file open for awhile to make sure I got every penny out of the settlement. They say without a lawyer it can stay open no more than a year, with a lawyer it can go on for years. With mine, I didn’t have a lawyer and settled my case myself. After signing my paper and sending them in, I received my check within a month. It does take awhile but that is the job of your lawyer to get it asap.
If it takes any longer, you could ask your lawyer to resubmit papers again, or even take the company back to court. I know it sounds dumb but my sister in law got another 5k because the other company took longer to process the papers and she was still out of money.
Good Luck, and remember keep in contact with your lawyer! You’re paying him to get your money asap!!
The lawyer will get the check from the insurance company, take his cut and send you what is left. Everyone along the line takes their sweet time………….."The check is in the mail"
